Steam Holiday Sale Deals Under $10

Valve have kicked off the Steam Holiday Sale earlier this year than they did last year to capitalize of gifting games to other people. There’s a lot of great deals until January 3rd on games, as well as daily (well 40-hourly really so far) special deals that are majorly discounted. Expect those to change, and some of the more expensive games on Steam to be bought for a steal, particularly if the games have been out for a while.

Here’s a small selection of games that I’ve got that are available cheaply on Steam for under $10:

There are a ton of other great games up right now, so you should go and have a look at what there is there. There are a lot of newer games, heavily discounted, including Batman: Arkham Asylum for $33.49, but I’m more interested in the under $10 price range for games, being Scots and a miser.

Steam Year End Sale: BioShock!

BioshockSteam

BioShock is one of those games I’ve been holding out on getting, mostly because I don’t own a Xbox 360 and I don’t have a powerful enough computer to run it well. I was planning on waiting until either of those situations changed, and the price dropped to around $10 or so. However, Steam are currently doing a huge Year End Sale with a lot of titles heavily discounted. BioShock, which originally arrived for $49.99 and dropped quickly to $19.99 was always on my list of games to buy, but this Year End Sale put the price at $4.99. There’s no way I can ever beat that price at retail, unless I get a used opened copy, so I bit the bullet and bought it. Even if I can’t play it right now, I’ll have it in my Steam account so that when I do get a better computer, I’ll be able to fully enjoy it. Of course, the wife’s laptop can run it just fine, so I might be commandeering that to play on.

Deals: New Egg Wii Deals $19.99 + Free Shipping

NewEggWiiDeals

New Egg are selling 96 Wii games for under $20. There’s a few good games there on the list including Prince of Persia Rival Swords, No More Heroes, Raving Rabbids, Manhunt 2, and Samba De Amigo. Need a last minute gift?

Oh, and there’s free shipping!

Deals: Guild Wars Eye of the North $4.95

GuildWarsEOTN

Yesterday I mentioned picking up the Guild Wars expansion Eye of the North for $9.95. I’m glad I didn’t put the order in yesterday as they dropped the price today to $4.95! Considering that Amazon got rid of their price change policy recently, I’m glad I did, because that’s saving $25 on the normal retail price.

If you’re a Guild Wars player, you can pick it up fro $4.95 at Amazon. Hurry though, as it might not last long at that price!

Black Friday, Prelude to White Christmas

RavingRabbids

I hate Black Friday with a passion that I don’t have for much else. Apart from the mob mentality that seems to be evident, common civility goes out of the window with many people. Due to tight finances, and not wanting to be in among that throng of crazies, we decided to stay away from most Black Friday sales today. Luckily, we managed to take advantage of a good deal Toys R Us has online. By using Paypal (which I hate using), we saved $25 on a $50+ order. This allowed us to get Raving Rabbids TV Party for the kids for $24.99 AND get a free copy of the first Raving Rabbids. We already have that, so we’ll trade it in unopened to our local store for credit towards another game.

We’re also taking advantage of the used games market for this Crimble, and managed to score two copies of Pokemon Ranger for the older kids, as well as Pokemon: Explorers of Time for Aidan. They’ll be able to play head to head as Maeve already has Pokemon: Explorers of Darkness. Pokemon: Ranger isn’t multiplayer, but they’ll both be able to play along together, which they do well with, anyway.

Additionally, Amazon seems to have Guild Wars Eye of the North for $9.99, so we’re getting a copy for each kid for their Guild Wars accounts, so that when they finally make it to Level 20, that will be unlocked for them.

Compared to last year, when the kids got a Wii and over a dozen games, this year will be a little present-light, but I’m not going to be working retail so we’ll have a lot more time to play games over the Crimble break.

Play: A Slew of DS Games

ShirenTheWanderer

Over the past week we’ve picked up a few more Nintendo DS games. My daughter had some birthday money to spend and she wanted some Pokemon games, so we obliged by taking her to the local second-hand game store, where she could get more bang for her buck. She picked up Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue Team and Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time.

I’ve been playing a lot of Mystery Dungeon: Shiren The Wanderer, is a non-Pokemon version of the above games. We also picked up Star Wars: Lethal Alliance, Wario: Master of Disguise and Drawn to Life. Not too shabby for about $75 or so.

Beta: Good Old Games (GOG.COM)

GOGBeta

This morning I got my beta access key to the Good Old Games website. I’ve been looking forward to this as the games that they are planning to offer will be low priced PC games that are DRM-free and will run on XP & Vista (as you can see above). The initial catalogue is mostly Interplay and Codemasters games, and I already own most of the games available, but the sweet thing about the beta is that if you buy 1 game, you’ll get 1 free if you signed up for the early beta before Sept 8th (which I did).
