An Update

Technorati Tags: ,

I thought I should post an update. The good news is that I’ve got a change of job which means that I’m going to be on a more regular schedule and will have time each day to post updates to the site here. I’m finishing the last two days of my current position and have the weekend off before moving into my new position, so I’m going to take the time to recharge my batteries and get my head in order so that I can start posting again on Monday. I may end up posting a couple of deals at the weekend, but regular posting will resume on Monday.

Yay!

Web: My Son’s Future Gig

My son loves LEGO, even more than I did at his age, and he’s got tons of it strewn all over the house. I can see him ending up becoming a LEGO artist like Nathan Sawaya, who gets paid to create LEGO works. Can you imagine that? That’s a sweet gig. Nathan was asked to make a Master Chief from LEGO, and so, he did.

Deals: GameFly Non-Subscriber Free Shipping

GameFlyFreeNonSubscriber

According to Cheap Ass Gamer, GameFly are offering free shipping on a select group of titles until the 24th September, 2007 in their store. There’s a rather nice selection there for multiple platforms with some good games, some great games, but nothing you can’t probably pick up cheap elsewhere. GameFly store games all come in excellent condition and with a manual (if you care about such a thing). I don’t tend to worry about manuals much myself.

Deals: Toys R Us Buy 2 Get 1 Free

ToysRUs2OneFree

Joystiq reports that Toys R Us are doing Buy 2 Get 1 Free on all their video games in-store and online. There’s actually a heck of a lot of games under $20 that are half decent that you can use to complete your collection. For the newer consoles, it’s a great way to pick up the few games that you’re still looking out for.

I’m considering picking up the few Wii titles that I’m still waiting on. At that price, it makes it worthwhile getting them this way rather than trying to get them second hand. Of course, a couple of the games aren’t available online and some aren’t out yet. I’ll have to hit the store tonight on the way to Wed Game Night with Scooter to see what’s in stock.

News: InstantAction.com Coming Soon

InstantActionAnnouncement

InstantAction.com is a new game site coming soon that aims to offer lots of web-based games that don’t require any downloads. The new games are allegedly going to be arcade-centric and have top-notch content from some of the Garage Games team. A number of the games will be multiplayer. I’m betting that they’ll be using a new version of Flash that allows for streaming downloads of additional content. We’ve already seen some pretty impressive Flash gaming in the wild lately, but I’ll bet there’s more to come. The site isn’t live yet, but if you sign up at the main page you can be notified when the site goes live. Never fear because I’ve signed up and will let you know via this site.

Administration: Normal Service Resuming

As of today, normal service for the blog will be resuming. There’s just been a lot of things happening here in Real Life (TM) that have taken my attention away from posting deals and links. Things have been a little crazy around the Bagder household for the past few weeks, but things have settled and we’re all trucking along the way we’re supposed to.

So, what is it that’s getting in the way of me updating this blog. Partly it’s my inability to sleep, but as I’ve just completed a second sleep study, that will soon be also under control. I’ve also decided to go back and finally get my Bachelor’s degree. The irony is that making this decision has allowed me to become a lot more focused. I’ve had to make a number of decisions (along with Mrs Teh Bagder, who graduates next quarter) about my own personal projects. One is that I plan to continue maintaining this blog, and will make sure that I spend at least 30-60 minutes a day updating it and probably in a block of time in the morning (making a liar out of me for one of my previous posts). These updates will be between 9-10 a.m. each morning, with intermittent updates throughout the day as I see fit. Most of my classes are distance learning and I’ll be working around family and other commitments, but having a set time to update the blog will stop me from going crazy and allow me to keep it maintained. Plus, I also need to sleep at some point during the day and working weekend nightshift messes with my clock. Once again, that should be fixed soon enough.

I’m also trying to find the best way for me to update the blog and still make it interesting without it just being a bunch of links to other sites. That will explain some of the format changes to entries lately, particularly the Amazon deals. The problem with these entries is they take up more time to put together instead of putting all the daily deals together in a single entry. This cuts into my time for writing entries and stops me from being able to write up lengthier posts that are focused on particular topics.

I’ve also been lax putting together audio deals for Short Attention Gamer, and I plan to rectify that as soon as I get this blog up and running properly again. It doesn’t take that long to actually record the deals, but it does take time to find them and select decent deals. I’d love to sit and post to the blog all day long and find deals but it’s not financially beneficial for me to do so, nor is it the best use of my time, so it gets a lower priority to other things in my life. That’s the catch-22 right there: less time to write means less interest for people to visit and you can’t grow a site without eyeballs. The truth is that there are maybe 30-40 regular visitors to the site and that kind of traffic only really allows me to give a little bit of time to the site. If I was getting 1000 visitors a month and making about $150 on affiliate earnings then I’d be adding a lot more content to the site as it would be paying its way and be giving me a reason to really post all the time.

That’s where you guys, the readers of the blog can help out. If you drum up traffic for the site, I’ll start spending more time looking for deals and posting them. I’m rethinking the advertising on the site so that I can earn a little more money doing it. Of course, Content is King and I need to know what kind of content readers of the site want to see, so you need to give me some feedback here so that I can deliver what you want. Drop a comment and let me know what you think. If you don’t want to drop a comment publicly, send an e-mail to himself at tehbagder dot com instead.

Freebies: Command & Conquer Gold (Windows PC)

FreeCommandConquer

The good folks at EA games understand full well the marketing power of a freebie, and they’re using it to their advantage to promote Command and Conquer 3 (Windows PC and Xbox 360); they’re giving away full downloads of Command and Conquer Gold! Both discs for the game are provided in ISO format, so you’ll need to have CD burner or emulation software installed on your computer to convert or use the files, but there are plenty of free programs that can help you out if you don’t already have one.

This is the game that started the whole franchise and these disks are the same that are included in the Collectors Pack. The game will now run on Windows XP and allow you to get your GDI or your NOD on and relive those classic Kane moments on videoscreens. Go to the site and download the files now. I recommend using a download program such as Getright, Star Downloader or Orbit to grab the disc files because the transfer rate is pretty slow.

Thanks to DeltaOne211 on the Short Attention Gamer forums for pointing me to this.
