Deals: Wal Mart $5 Movies

We popped into Wal Mart today to pick up some kids shampoo (it was near the Burger King we took them to lunch after swimming at the YMCA), and found theres’s a LOT of $5 DVD movies on their clearance section, with quite a few good ones. Being a complete Sci-Fi nut, I managed to pick up a few titles I didn’t have yet on DVD, including Escape from New York, Escape from LA and Top Secret. Obviously your mileage will vary when you get to your own local stores, but I saw a lot of movies that are pretty recent and are decent flicks too. Well worth looking into if you want to build your DVD library.

Web: Amazon.com Super Mario Galaxy Pre-Order Available

Amazon.com just dropped me a note to let me know Super Mario Galaxy for the Wii is now available for Pre-Order for $49.99 and has a release date of November 12, 2007.

I’m of two minds about this at the moment. I really want to get this game for Wii-Vent ‘07, but I think I can hold off for another couple of months until I pick one up used. The question becomes do I want to pre-order, hold off and see if I can get it cheaper during the mad, mad Black Friday sales of Thanksgiving, or wait to pick it up used. I’ve a feeling it’s one of those titles that isn’t going to be available used for some time, and it’s a game the whole family will enjoy this Crimble. If I do buy from Amazon, then there’s no sales tax (saving me 6.75% there, and I’ll make a little on commission (another 4%), so I can get this for about 10% cheaper new. Decisions, decisions. Luckily I’ve got until November to decide.

Administration: Rethinking The Ads and Design

As I get close to the final redesign of the IATB site, I’ve decided to take the weed whacker equivalent for ads to the Google Ads on the site, and will be dropping most of them. I’ve been following a lot of the ad links that have been showing up and while some are pretty good, most are for those “FREE CONSOLE” scams that require you to sign up for multiple promotions from other companies so you can qualify for whatever you’re trying to get. I’m going to pull back to one Google Ad block on the main site, along with some in-article links on the longer articles. Google hasn’t really made too much moolah for me anyway (probably due to the type of ads), so I’d rather use the screen real estate for things that might benefit readers.

Web: Get Yer Old Skool Konsoles Here!

Just stumbled across Nintendos For Sale, which seems to be a great online store to pick up Old Skool gaming consoles and games. They carry a lot of older Nintendo consoles as well as the Dreamcast, PS 1, Atari and Xbox consoles. The prices are pretty decent as well for hard to find items that you can’t get on eBay, but the game selection is pretty small, and limited to only consoles like the SNES, NES and N64. Just another place for you to look if you’re more into the hardware versions of game rather than the Virtual Console versions.

Web: Revisioned Tomb Raider on GameTap

Tomb Raider Revisioned

While waiting for the GameTap free games to refresh, I happened up a certain Miss Lara Croft in a new online cartoon under the Re\Visioned Tomb Raider label. It’s written and created by the guys behind the Aeon Flux cartoon series and some of the episodes of the Animatrix. There’s a full episode up so far, split into three parts, titled Keys To The Kingdom and that centers around a powerful mystical ankh. Each part is around 5 minutes long and runs in a Flash player (much like the rest of the GameTap Website). Pretty enjoyable stuff if you’re a Lara fan like me.
