Play: We Got A Wii!

Teh Bagder's Wii!

The local Meijer stores, announced in yesterday’s advert that they’d have Wiis on sale. There were 2000 of them to be distributed throughout all of their stores. Mrs Teh Bagder and I discussed us getting one while we could, and so I popped along at 4am to see if I could get one, even although they weren’t to be on sale till 6am.

When I got to the store, there was no-one else there. I asked one of the staff if they had any in, and he told me that they had but they’d go out at 6am. I told him I knew that and I was just going to hang around till then. He told me someone else had been in at midnight but went home after a bit. He also said that normally they didn’t sell out till about noon when they did get in, but I didn’t want to take that chance. So, I waited.

While waiting, the young chap that had been in earlier came in and we got to chatting about a number of things. At about 5:15am more and more people started to come in line. There eventually was about a dozen of us. One of the girls in line said that a friend that worked at the store had said there were 21 in and that they had been coming in since Wednesday. That was certainly good news for everyone who was there. It also meant some stores weren’t getting as many as they hoped, if any.

At 5:55am they pulled out the cart with all the units on it to the media purchase station where we were all lined up. There were about a half dozen large boxes on the car. Rather stupidly, there was no-one set to use the cashier station there, and as most of us were going to be using a credit card to pay, we were going to have a staff member take us and our Wii up front to pay at the front cashier stations. While the chap in front of me looked for more items from the lockup cases (I let him go first before he and his mum had to buy some extra stuff) I walked along with the staffer that took me up to the front. In his hands, he held the Bagder Wii! Dammit, but I wanted to hold it! It was soon to be mine!

The lady that cashiered me out told me about her daughter and her kids having a blast with the Wii. As I paid, the bagger put the Wii in the cart. She turned and told him that he should put it in a black bag rather than a normal bag to hide it. I said that it was okay and if anyone tried to take it from me, then they’d be racking up some medical bills. She laughed, but then turned serious and looked a bit worried. At midnight previous, a dead body was discovered in a car at the back of the store. Now this area is generally a very good area, so this was a little disturbing. I turned back to the bagger and told him to put it in a black bag. I was parked near the front entrance, but it looked like bagging it this way would make the cashier a little more comfortable. I signed my John Hancock on the CC reader and took the Wii to the car in its black shopping bag. Once there, I locked the doors and took it out of the bag to take a pic.

Lookit! There it is! In that pic above! In my car! Isn’t it cute?

It’s in a special box in the basement now along with some other stuff that we’ve prepurchased for birthdays etc. I’m going to get the kids out of the house today so that I can test it and set it up, then pack it away again. The hard part will be putting it away until Christmas Eve, when we’ll bring it out for the whole family along with the extra controllers and games we’ll have for it; this is part of Wii-Event ‘07, and part of our major purchase for the kids and us.  Now that we have this, it means we can rest a bit easier in securing Crimble happiness for us, and I can focus on putting money away for an Xbox 360.
