News: Sony E3 07 News
So, coverage of Sony’s news at last. I’ll do a comparison in another post about them all.
- PSP form factor change. I was expecting this. First off, there was a price drop which meant they were trying to increase customer base and move units in the sales channel. The PSP has also been gaining in popularity recently and finally has some good titles. Finally, a different color than Sony Black. I’ve always been interested in getting one of these, and this piques my interest more.
- Metal Gear Solid 4 is a PS3 exclusive and last in series. This will sell PS3 unitis, moreso now that it’s going to be the end of an era. Hideo Jokima has stated in the past that he wants to develop on other platforms, and it’s easier to do this without focusing on MGS as the main bread and butter for the company.
- Killzone 2 looks really good. I’m one of the few that quite like the first game, and I’m sure I’ll like this one just as much.
- Little Big Planet. Collaboratic world and game creation. It’s about time this hit Next Gen. I was doing this years ago in a similar fashion with friends on my old Acorn Electron for the Repton series of games. This game is one reason I’m looking at a PS3, because I can use it as a teaching tool for enhancing home schooling for the kids.
- Infamous looks good, but also seems to be an idea that’s been done before in other ways. It’ll have to stand out on its own with something cool or it won’t sell.
- Army of Two. The PS3 answer to Gears of War, a year late. The meter mechanic is interesting. If I play this game with Mrs Teh Bagder, you can bet I’d be invisible to everyone - she likes to aggro enemies.
- Silent Hill V. Let me finish the first 4 first, dammit! The trailer didn’t give much away, but didn’t seem to be in the vein as existing games. The music is key to this game, and the trailer just didn’t have it.
- Sixaxis gets rumble. About time. Stupid Sony and their Stupid “Old Gen” technology smoke screen for not wanting to pay royalties. Bad Sony, no market share for you.
That’s pretty much it. I’ll still need to post on game news, as well as do a brief recap of E3 and my thoughts on it.
- MGS4: I’m not quite done with MGS2 yet, and haven’t even touched MGS3, but by the time I get through both of those, chances are the PS3 will have gotten another price cut. Hopefully, by then Kojima will have announced Zone of the Enders 3, and that would be the point at which I’d consider buying a PS3
- Silent Hill V: Oh my god, yes. Next-gen Silent Hill. If they can get a little closer to the movie in terms of visuals and special effects, it’ll be awesome. Yet I still haven’t played through Silent Hill 1-4, because they’re impossible to find in this province. >_> Oh well.
- Sixaxis getting rumble: Pretty sure this is Kojima’s fault. Rumble has always been pretty important in the Metal Gear Solid series and now they had to work around that for Metal Gear Solid 4. I think Kojima even said so in the press conference. When developers are pissed at you for changing game mechanics entirely, you should probably think things over.
I’ve still to complete MGS 2 & 3 myself, as well as a number of other games. I’ve got ZotE 1 sitting in my library. One of these days I’ll get around to it.
I’ve managed to bag all 4 Silent Hill games over time. I’m just waiting to get some time to sit down and play them all in sequence. I hate playing games out of sequence.
