Bill Walton, who runs The Escapist gaming advocacy site, and I are old friends. Older than our friendship is the 11 years of work that he’s put into The Escapist website, which acts as a central conduit for correcting misinformation about all manner of games, focusing heavily around roleplaying games.
One the major aspects of the site that are constantly growing is the Young Person’s Adventure League (YPAL), which helps both parents and Young Persons to get into games as well as supply links to appropriate material. One of Bill’s major loves is to continue to draw kids into the world of gaming and allow them to freely grow and develop their imagination and creativity. He’s done some fantastic work already, and is looking do more with others’ help.
Another aspect of the site is the Tell Me About Your Character section, where gamers are questioned about themselves and the games they play. Want to see what real gamers look like, and what their thoughts on gaming are? This is where you should visit.
BeQuest is “a project aimed at getting gamers involved in charitable efforts - making donations, organizing drives, volunteering time, giving of themselves”. This is something Bill feels strongly about, and he and I have talked in the past about how great it would be to have a roleplaying/board game/card game version of Child’s Play. One of these days it will happen. I’m sure of it.
Bill also works with Sam Chupp on the Square One podcast, which aims to help out those that are new to roleplaying games.
Bill will be at Origins 2007 and will be running an number of introductory games for new players. He’s also running two games specifically for kids using Faery’s Tale and Toon and possibly some Fuzzy Heroes battles every day at the convention.
If anyone from a games company is looking for someone with drive, intelligence, compassion and creativity, you should drop Bill a line. He’d love to be doing this stuff full (or even part-) time and get paid for it (handsomely if at all possible). You can contact Bill via his contact page.

Bill is also working on a new project for the site - details are somewhat “hush hush” at the moment, but here is a sneak peek that I - *ahem* - HE just finished up: http://www.theescapist.com/library/logo-color2.jpg
