Tabletop: Pirates At Ocean’s Edge Special Edition Tins

While hitting the local Wal-Mart tonight for a couple of foodstuffs that we buy from their (no, not the recalled dog and cat food that allegedly is still on shelves), I ran across an exclusive collector tin that the store is offering for Wizkid’s Game’s Pirates at Ocean’s Edge. Each $14.99 pack contains 2 exclusive special edition ships, 1 exclusive crew, and 1 exclusive treasure, along with 4 normal packs of the game (which normally retail for $3.99 each or more). Not only that, but each tin includes a coupon for a free digital pack for the online version of the game! This is worth another $3.99 at least, so you’re getting about $25 worth of product for $14.99. Sweet!

Too good a deal to pass up, I managed to convince the others in the Bagder family to buy me two tins and two other non-exclusive special edition boxes as a combined early birthday and Father’s Day present. As usual, I managed to score a number of the rare cards that I want, and a bunch of spares which I’ll sell or trade. I did manage to score me a giant crab though, Raninoidea, who is a Titan and worth 21 points. I can’t wait to send this guy into battle!

Pimpage: Short Attention Gamer

Short Attention Gamer is a podcast ran by Matt and Todd, two dads and working stiffs who often find themselves bereft of time and ability to play games. In between Matt being sick and Todd going to various meetings and training classes, they produce the podcast usually at the week end and recap how their week in gaming went. The site also boast a bulletin board, that while not heavily trafficked, is full of people who share many common interests and who get on well together. There are often competitions run with some nifty prizes as well. Well worth listening to because compared to many of the other zany and crazy podcasts out there, this one is easy listening.

Disclosure: I’m a member of their forums and supply an audio segment with game deals every now and again. Just thought I’d mention it. I listened to the show long before I did either of those though. So there.
